Nidra Beard 💗 was the co-lead singer for the R&B group Dynasty,

known for hits like “I’ve Just Begun to Love You.”

Dynasty was one of the late-1970s bands that formed the “SOLAR 

Sound,” signed to SOLAR Records. 

Beard joined Dynasty as the future wife of the band’s creator, Leon

Sylvers III, after singing in such bands as DeBlanc and Starfire.    

With Beard 💗 as one of several co-lead singers, Dynasty had their 

first hits in 1979, most notably “I Don’t Want to Be a Freak

(But I Can’t Help Myself).” 

It made a splash in U.S. dance clubs but

rose to its greatest fame in the U.K., where it was in the Top 20 of 

the charts. 

Dynasty would soon have greater success at home in the U.S. with

the song “I’ve Just Begun to Love You,” their only entry onto the pop

charts and a No. 6 hit on R&B radio. 

Their other singles included 

“Do Me Right,” “Here I Am,” “Love in the Fast Lane,” and “Check It Out.”
